Stanley Jordan (not
to be confused with Stanley Clarke) is the consummate bass player, IMHO.
Just choosing one song was very difficult for me. I love his covers
of classics such as "Autumn Leaves", "Stairway to Heaven", "Stolen Moments",
"Angel", and the list goes on. Yet, I chose one of his original compositions
for a clip, because it gives me very fond memories.
It was September of
'94 and I was on my way to Bermuda when a girlfriend stopped by to give
me a birthday present. Needless to say, I was running around like
a chicken with her head cut off, and I dropped the gift in a bag
without even opening it. A couple of days later I was at Horseshoe
Bay having a banner Sundown Lady day :), and I popped the cd in and listened
contentedly as I soaked up the sun and the ambiance. Then I heard
"Plato's
Blues" and some very deep and wonderful tears came streaming down
my face. To be in heaven with this monster bassist/guitarist
strumming in my ear was simply overwhelming. This clip doesn't do
justice to his unique talent, but hopefully it will stimulate you to pick
up the "Bolero" (or any other for that matter!) cd and hear
it for yourself. Enjoy !
